Pine needles have been considered lucky charms since ancient times, symbolizing eternal love and connection because they are always in pairs. As evergreens that retain their green even in the dead of winter, they are also symbols of vitality, longevity, and prosperity. This is a piece of work in which sashiko stitching is applied to each individual pine needle. I made this, thinking it would be perfect for the New Year's season, as a base for kagami mochi (rice cakes) or as a display for zodiac animal figurines. Since the edges are left raw, it will stand out even more if used with a red felt underneath. The last images (11 and 12) are examples of use, and I will include a red silk cloth.
