This is a bamboo basket from the Torigoe region of Iwate Prefecture, used for harvesting bamboo grass. It seems convenient for work as it allows the user to have both hands free. It is quite old. I purchased it about 25 years ago from an antique shop in Tachikawa, Tokyo. I usually displayed dried flowers in it, and in autumn, I would display Japanese pampas grass, but I am letting it go due to moving. There are two loops to thread a string through, allowing it to be worn diagonally across the body. I believe it was used for mushroom and wild vegetable gathering, or for harvesting in agricultural work. The bottom of the basket is flat, so it can be placed and used as is. It is still usable. I think the condition is good, but this is a used item, so please refrain from purchasing if you are sensitive to such things.
