I repurposed a kimono to make a hanten (Japanese padded coat). The lining is cotton quilted fabric, so it's very warm. The collar overlaps like a kimono, preserving the traditional Japanese clothing style. I made it with women in mind, but it's also okay for men. If hand washing, wash quickly by pressing, use fabric softener, lightly spin dry, and hang to dry in the shade. Use a pressing cloth when ironing. I made this by deconstructing a used kimono I bought at a vintage clothing store. The lining is polyester taffeta quilt. The front overlaps, preventing warmth from escaping.
