This is a very unique fukuro obi. It's made using a painstaking technique of applying silver leaf to Japanese paper and cutting it into thin strips for weaving. The silver has been intentionally discolored to create an uneven effect, with about 3/5 of it taking on a reddish-brown to a deep, dark green hue, like copper. It has a distinctive and rare atmosphere. It would be great to pair it with a classic patterned kimono, or to create a fashionable, modern look with a solid-colored kimono or a plain furisode (long-sleeved kimono). As shown in the 10th photo, the reverse side has an all-over pattern of checkered and horizontal stripes, making it reversible. This can be an accent when tying decorative knots, such as with a furisode. My mother purchased this, and I received it unused. I wore it once for a short time. I had it cleaned immediately, and as I was taking the photos now, I couldn't see any signs of wear, and it looks as good as new.
