This is a two-tiered tansu chest featuring the "Kiku Okiage" decorative technique, where gofun (oyster shell powder) is layered to create a three-dimensional chrysanthemum pattern. As it is an antique, there is some soiling and flaking of the gofun on the chrysanthemum petals, as well as minor scratches, chips, insect damage, and stains on the wooden parts, particularly on the back. However, these imperfections are not significant enough to detract from the overall aesthetic of the tansu as a piece of its time. In addition to its function as a drawer chest, it can also be used as a decorative platform to display seasonal flowers and small items, creating an elegant and refined atmosphere (see image 10, items other than the tansu are for photography purposes only).
