This is a tea bowl by Kagemasa Kato, also known as Toshiro, and called Shunkai-o. It is in excellent condition and is a very rare item. The paulownia wood box has the kao (signature) of Sokan Matsuo, the 8th generation of the Urasenke school. Kagemasa Kato Commonly known as Shirozaemon. This was shortened to Toshiro. His art name was Shunkai. He is said to be the younger brother of Kagekado Kato, but there are many uncertainties about his true identity. He is a legendary figure in the Seto and Mino areas of modern times, and is spoken of as the founder of the main family of potters.
