This komon features a white background with a shibakusa (lawn) pattern, adorned with neatly arranged dots and fan motifs. The hakake (lining) is a navy blue fabric scattered with small white flowers, a type of Edo Komon. This is an unworn komon, still with its basting stitches. It came from my late sister-in-law, who practiced Japanese dance. It seems to have been made for dance performances, as the yukitake (sleeve length) is longer than that of everyday kimono. The design is a little different from my usual tastes, so I surmised this was the case. My mother-in-law, a true Edokko (native of Tokyo) from the working-class district, was also fond of this sophisticated style, which influenced the kimono.
