Maestro Masur & Israel Philharmonic Bruckner's Symphony No. 7, 1995 Live Coupling: A Thrilling "A Survivor from Warsaw" This album features a live recording of a performance of Bruckner's Symphony No. 7 conducted by the master conductor Kurt Masur, born in 1927, with the Israel Philharmonic. The concert took place in March 1995, three years after he was appointed Honorary Conductor for Life. [Bruckner Symphonies Conducted by Masur] Masur, who served as Kapellmeister of the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra for a long period from 1970 to 1996, building the foundation of his fame, completed a complete recording of Bruckner's symphonies with the same orchestra between 1974 and 1978 (No. 7 was recorded in 1974). Furthermore, during his tenure as Music Director of the New York Philharmonic (1991-2002), succeeding Mehta, Masur recorded live performances of No. 7 in 1991 and No. 4 in 1993. [Masur's Favorite: Symphony No. 7] Including this live recording, there are currently five known recordings of No. 7, which seems to be one of Bruckner's symphonies that Masur particularly excelled at. In addition to the above, there are also known live recordings with the Staatskapelle Berlin in London in 1967 and with the Schleswig-Holstein Festival Orchestra in 2003. He also frequently performed it in concert, such as in 2005 and 2007 during his time as Music Director of the Orchestre National de France (2002-2008), where he continued to guest conduct.
