● Dorome (Mud Eye) This beautiful and refined mask has an indescribable expression that exudes a bewitching intensity. Its name comes from the gold mud applied to the white eyes. Gold mud is also applied to the teeth visible through the slightly open mouth. The face, which is slightly concave in the center, is painted pale, with gold in the eyes and disordered hair. The shallow indentation under the nose gives it an otherworldly, eerie atmosphere. Originally used for roles such as the female bodhisattvas in "Taima" and "Ama," it later came to be used in "Aoi no Ue" and "Kanawa" as the mae-jite (leading role) and "Kinuta" because its appearance was deemed suitable for a jealous living ghost.
