When my children (4th grade and 1st grade) started learning Hyakunin Isshu, I thought memorizing all 100 cards at once would be difficult. I chose this set because it had familiar themes and illustrations, and a smaller number of cards, which I thought would be more efficient. They enjoyed playing with this set while watching the anime "Chihayafuru" and memorized the poems in no time. I really recommend this for beginners.
