I purchased it already set on the base. I have stored it since purchase and have not used it. As it is a vintage stone, there may be fine scratches on the stone itself, but they are not visible to the naked eye, so I have treated it as new. This is a vintage sapphirette, which needs no explanation for those who love vintage items. Also known as sapphireen, it is a somewhat special type of glass. The manufacturing method is not known today, so it is called phantom glass. It is a beautiful glass stone with a pale blue flash visible within a stone that can be described as both brown and pink. It has a rich, deep color. The surface is cabochon, and the back is cut. The actual size is shown in the image. Please allow for some margin of error. It is about the same size as Swarovski's SS29, or slightly larger. This is made in the former West Germany. It is an item that was made to reproduce the sapphirette (antique sapphirette) that was made in Jablonec, Czech Republic. Both antique sapphirette and vintage sapphirette are collectors' items, and I think their prices continue to rise year by year.
