It takes its name from the village of Ushikubi (present-day Shiramine Village, Ishikawa Prefecture) in the Hakusan foothills, where it is produced. It is characterized by being woven using thick, knotted tama-ito (a type of silk yarn) made from the tama-mayu (double cocoons) of two silkworms. The mature expression that spreads with a variety of yet subdued colors, the flowing line design that expresses the wind with a skillful composition, and the expression created by the smooth texture of the silk material are the very "charm of traditional pongee that is in vogue today"! The refreshing feeling of kasuri and the natural flavor created by the unique knots are unique to Ushikubi Tsumugi, and are wonderful.
