Purchased directly from Mr. Clifton Karhu himself around 2005 at the Karhu Studio in Kyoto. The fan says "NO SMOKING FAN" and "no sumokingu fuan" (in Japanese). According to an anecdote from the artist himself, he created this fan to express his dislike of cigarette smoke when he went to a sushi restaurant with his family that allowed smoking.
