The silver solid coin-edge case, large crown, and two-tone black dial with Arabic numeral indexes strongly evoke an antique atmosphere. The case is made by "Dennison Watch Case Co.", a high-quality case maker known for supplying cases to prestigious brands such as Rolex and Omega. The back cover is stamped with U.S. Pat May 24 1904, indicating a patent related to waterproof cases obtained in the United States at the time. Based on this engraving and details, it is believed that a Tavannes movement, which was supplied to the military during the same period, is housed inside. The "p" in the engraving is in Gothic script and corresponds to Birmingham in 1914 (in the midst of World War I). Tavannes has a record of manufacturing special specification watches for the crew of British Royal Navy submarines during World War I, and this particular piece shares many similarities with the "diver's model" of the time.
