He received the Yoshikawa Eiji Literary Prize for New Writers for "Mitabi no Kaikyo" (Three Straits) and the Yamamoto Shugoro Prize for "Heisa Byoto" (The Closed Ward). While active as a writer, he has also worked as a doctor for over 35 years, treating gambling addiction.
