This is a masterpiece, a shihōbon (square tray) by Koshō Otani of Higashiyama. A confectionary tray. Beautiful! Even from afar, this shihōbon by Koshō Otani stands out. Many similar designs are sold, but somehow, this tray by Otani Koshō is in a class of its own. There are many similar items, but for some reason, this one is beautiful. The wood grain is appropriately wild, and that's what makes it beautiful. It touches the heart. Is it because of the color or the shape? I don't know why. The item for sale is very old. There is no damage to the surface. There are only a few scratches. Looking from the back, the wedges in the four corners are damaged in three places. Even so, it won't fall apart. However, please refrain from placing heavy items on it. It's best to use it for Japanese sweets or senbei (rice crackers). I feel like the old color is turning into a shine.
