[Description] Oshima Tsumugi is a "pre-dyed woven fabric." The pre-dyed yarn has impurities removed, resulting in a high-density, strong yarn. Dorozome Oshima Tsumugi undergoes a dyeing process using "sharinbai (wheel plum)" and "mud" for 120 times, so it is said to have the "highest fastness among plant dyes." Ai Oshima is classified by its dyeing method. Hon-silk yarn is indigo-dyed using an indigo liquid made by fermenting plant indigo. The indigo-dyed ground yarn and kasuri yarn, which weaves kasuri patterns into indigo-colored ground yarn, are woven alternately. Ryugosho patterns, Akina Bara patterns, Arima patterns, Saigo patterns, and Kikkou patterns are representative patterns of Oshima Tsumugi. Antique Oshima Tsumugi features two classic patterns: Ryugosho (Tatsugo-gara) and Akina Bara (Akinabaragara). The Ryugosho pattern originated in Ryugosho Town and is a kasuri weave that expresses cycads and habu snakes in geometric patterns.
