This is a Sansui (mountain and water) horseback cup from Tou-Shou-Gama, a kiln in the Kiyomizu-yaki (Kyoto-yaki) tradition. A popular piece by Tou-Shou. Dimensions: Diameter 5cm x Height 6cm, Weight 80g Purchased in Kyoto about 20 years ago. The cup is painted with a Sansui (mountain and water) landscape in sometsuke (blue and white). The rim of the drinking surface is cut in a "rinka" shape, resembling flower petals, and is edged with iron oxide (kuchibeni), a brown color often seen in high-quality porcelain. Each piece has a unique, hand-painted quality, with the Sansui painting extending all the way to the foot of the glass. The inside is also beautifully decorated with gos-iro (blue). This Kiyomizu-yaki porcelain wine glass has a Japanese aesthetic and can also be used as a Japanese tableware. I purchased it and have kept it on display without using it. I am selling it because I have no use for it. Please understand that this is a used item that has been stored at home. I am also selling a set of two. #KiyomizuYaki #KyotoYaki #WineGlass #JapaneseTableware #SansuiPainting #Porcelain #TouShou #HorsebackCup #Porcelain
