(Just my opinion) Because it's hand-painted, the subtle differences in the firing and patterns make it enjoyable, even with the same design. I purchased several of these at a pottery fair of Arita-yaki at a department store in Kansai many years ago. I bought them thinking it would be lovely to put things like salmon roe or black beans in them on special occasions like New Year's... but they've been sitting in the cupboard ever since... I'm also listing other designs and pieces with different hand-painted variations of the same design, so please take a look and compare them if you'd like. I think it can be used as a dish for a small side dish, or as a small item container (jewelry box) for earrings, rings, etc. The bottom is dirty, but otherwise, there are no noticeable scratches or chips.
