Kawabata Yasunari (Reading) Kawabata Yasunari Novelist. Born in Osaka. Recognized for "Shokon-sai Ikkei" published in "Shin Shicho," he co-founded "Bungei Jidai" with Riichi Yokomitsu and others. He started as a New Sensationalist. Chairman of the Japan P.E.N. Club. Recipient of the Order of Culture. Awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1968. Later, he committed suicide by gas. Works include "The Izu Dancer," "Asakusa Kurenaidan," "Snow Country," "Thousand Cranes," and "The Sound of the Mountain."
