This is a Kutani-yaki (Kutani ware) vase, a traditional craft produced in Ishikawa Prefecture. Kutani-yaki is said to have originated in the early Edo period in Kutani Village, Enuma District, Kaga Province (present-day Kaga City, Ishikawa Prefecture). Its characteristic feature is the overglaze painting technique using five colors, known as "gosai" (red, yellow, green, purple, and dark blue), applied thickly.
