Converting "sukumo" (dried indigo leaves) into a water-soluble dye is called "building the indigo." Sukumo is placed in an indigo vat (aigame) to store the indigo liquid, and through natural fermentation by lye and microorganisms, the indigo dyeing solution is created. Indigo dyeing is originally fermentation. Fermentation indigo dyeing is still not easily done today. Therefore, it is a craftsman's work. ■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■ Indigo is also said to be a medicinal herb dye, and it is resistant to ultraviolet rays. Yarn and cloth dyed with indigo become about 50% more durable. Looking at old kasuri fabrics, even if the white threads break, the indigo threads remain intact.
