This belonged to my father. It's a vintage item acquired about 40 years ago. He purchased it for display purposes and never used it, storing it in a dark place for a long time, so it's in beautiful condition. The type of Noh mask is "Ko-omote." "Ko-omote" represents a young woman, with a pure and lovely impression. It comes with a box, but there are no markings on the box or the mask itself, so the maker is unknown. However, it's finished using natural wood (mostly cypress or cedar), and the wood grain is very fine. You can see the marks of careful planing. Looking at the wood grain, it's very fine, indicating it was made from valuable wood. Inexpensive mass-produced items often have coarse wood grain and are covered with paint, but this one has a natural luster and appears to be of high quality. It looks like a "wax finish," where the wood itself has been carefully polished to shine. The changing color and luster of the wood over time is also appealing. Furthermore, in terms of expression, the lines of the eyes and mouth are neither too shallow nor too deep, giving the expression a sense of "breath." It's only an estimate, but it's highly likely that it was made by an experienced mask maker (Noh mask craftsman). There are almost no scratches or color unevenness as shown in the photos, but there are some minor scratches on the cheeks and the tip of the nose. Overall, there's nothing noticeable, but please understand that this is a 40-year-old item before purchasing!
