"Mita Seiji" is celadon ware manufactured in Miwa-cho, Mita City, Hyogo Prefecture during the late Edo period. It is counted as one of the world's three major celadon wares, alongside Chinese Longquan celadon and Korean Goryeo celadon. Its characteristics include a transparency and beautiful color comparable to Chinese celadon, a glossy finish, and a pale color. The unique manufacturing method of applying four layers of glaze results in a natural depth. The unevenness, with some areas being thin and others thick, creates a gradation effect, allowing you to appreciate the depth of the celadon. Because they are carefully crafted by artisans, no two pieces are alike, and the differences in appearance are also part of their charm. This is a censer in the shape of a lion, the same as one in the Hyogo Prefectural Museum of Ceramic Art, and is a very rare item. It has a calm atmosphere that feels the passage of time in its soft celadon glaze, and the upper part is decorated with the form of facing lions. There are cracks and repairs on the hind legs (please refer to the images), but otherwise, there is no significant damage, and the condition is relatively good.
