This is a baby doll of the early "La merise" characters, the "Shama Cat," from the Atsuko Matano brand, designed by Atsuko Matano, from the mid-1980s. Three small Shama Cat babies are in a rattan basket. This item was featured several times in the magazine "Olive" around 1985, and I purchased it around that time. I believe the one with the bead eyes is a boy, and it's made of slightly darker felt than the other two. Originally, the basket had a handle with frills, but the rubber inside the frills deteriorated over time and stretched out, so I removed the handle. I looked for it, but couldn't find it. Upon inspection for the listing, I found that the laughing cat has a slightly bald spot on the back of its head (photo 5), a round tear in the felt on its right cheek (photo 6), and the dress is yellowed overall with some stains (photo 7). The other two cats don't seem to have any noticeable damage, but their dresses are yellowed overall. I wanted to wash the dresses, but they are sewn directly onto the cats and couldn't be removed, so I couldn't wash them. They seem to be hand-sewn, so someone skilled in handicrafts might be able to remove them and wash them. There may be other oversights, but please be aware that this is a layman's inspection, and the item is old and shows signs of aging. As this is a 40-year-old item, I hope someone who understands vintage items will purchase it. Basket size: Approximately 10.5cm x 13cm x 3.5cm La merise, Olive goods, Olive (Yu-packet)
