We have asked a Mizuhiki artist residing in Hiroshima Prefecture, who graduated from Joshibi University of Art and Design and has worked as a designer for many years, to design and create these. ・About the materials To highlight the beauty of Mizuhiki, we do not use any materials other than Mizuhiki and rubber. We do not use ready-made parts such as beads or metal fittings, but instead combine Mizuhiki ball knots, using only Mizuhiki craft techniques, with rubber. The Mizuhiki is from Iida City, Nagano Prefecture, and the rubber is from Gosen City, Niigata Prefecture, all made in Japan, prioritizing quality. We are particular about the thickness, material, and color (brown) of the rubber. We use rubber that is soft, durable, and does not easily fray. The brown rubber makes dirt less noticeable. ・About Mizuhiki Mizuhiki is said to have the power to purify things and ward off evil spirits. It is also said that tying Mizuhiki imbues it with the power to ward off evil. The basic knot, the awaji knot, is difficult to untie once tied, and pulling on both ends of the Mizuhiki tightens it further, giving it meanings such as "lasting relationships," "matchmaking," and "longevity."
