New Japanese Tanzen Tanzen usually has the wadding sewn in, making it inseparable. However, this one can be removed for washing, a two-layered construction, making it a very rare item made in the Showa era. ※ It is a Tanzen made with extremely careful tailoring, the same way as a kimono. The main types of Tanzen are "Wata-ire" (padded) and "Hitoe" (single-layered), which doesn't have padding. This is a Hitoe. Because it's a Hitoe Tanzen, instead of cotton padding, wool material is used, making it warm and lighter than cotton. Tanzen is difficult to wash, but this one allows you to remove and wash only the part that touches the skin, so you can wear it cleanly. Mostly hand-sewn, and like a kimono, it's made with "Awase" (lined), so the seams and seam allowances are hidden, and the fabric is double-layered, making it durable and providing heat retention. The tailoring is carefully done, and the construction is solid, conveying the warmth unique to hand-sewing. Compared to padded Tanzen, it can be folded compactly for storage at the end of the season.
