His father was a stone carver, and his mother was a flower arrangement artist. After graduating from Nihon University College of Art, he was drawn to the ceramic spirit of Living National Treasure Toyozo Arakawa and began researching Oni Shino. He studied painting, photography, and color theory under Shinsei Arai, Shigeo Kanamaru, and Ryuzaburo Taguchi, while also becoming a follower of the Soto Zen sect. He presented Oni Shino works from the Tensho kiln, which scientifically investigated the Momoyama era's old kilns.
