Omeshi, formally known as Omeshi Chijimi, is a pre-dyed crepe weave woven using pre-refined and dyed threads. It is said that the name originated from Tokugawa Ienari, the 11th shogun, who favored wearing it. "Kaki-Shibu Omeshi: The still-green persimmon fruits are crushed, including the skin, and pressed. The extracted juice is stored in a cool, sunny place for nearly a year to ferment, becoming the original persimmon tannin. This persimmon tannin has been used since the Heian period for dyeing and coating fabrics, paper, and lumber for waterproofing and preservation. This product is a woven fabric that expresses warm, natural colors and textures by pre-dyeing with persimmon tannin, which was a primitive dyeing method."
