Gaikotsu Miyazaki Profile Born in Kagawa Prefecture. A journalist who was active from the mid-Meiji period to the Showa period. In 1887, his publication *Tontchi Kyokai Zasshi* was banned and he was imprisoned for lèse-majesté due to its satire of the Constitution of the Empire of Japan. Afterwards, he successively published unique magazines such as *Kokkei Shinbun*, which is said to have sold 80,000 copies, as well as *Scoble*, *Omoshiro Hanbun*, and *Shinsai Gahou*. The number of newspapers and magazines he published throughout his life exceeded 40. He also had the side of a social historian, publishing works such as *Waisetsu Fuzoku-shi* (History of Obscene Customs) and *Tobaku-shi* (History of Gambling) from his own publishing company, Hankyodo Yugen-sha, and formed the Meiji Culture Research Society, gathering scholars and enthusiasts from outside the academic world. He was also the founder of the "Meiji Newspaper and Magazine Library" at the Faculty of Law of the University of Tokyo. Due to his diverse activities, he is often misunderstood as an eccentric, but he was a rare figure who maintained a rebellious spirit in the pre-war era. By the way, "Gaikotsu" is his real name.
