This is a beautiful round lacquerware tray with a red and black marble pattern. The box inscription reads "Tsuishu Round Tray." The pattern is created by applying and hardening lacquer about 5mm thick, then polishing it. It is likely that this was made in Aizu during the Meiji era. The body is not hollowed out, but rather constructed by joining staves with hoops, like a barrel. There are some minor chips due to age, but overall it is in very good condition.
