This is a "Miraculous Medal" purchased at the Chapel of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal in Paris, France. In 1830, the Virgin Mary appeared to Sister Catherine Labouré and said, "Have a medal made according to this model, and those who wear it, after being blessed, will receive great graces." Catherine had the medal made as the Virgin Mary showed her. A few years later, when 2,000 medals were distributed to quell the cholera epidemic that was spreading in Paris, the cholera miraculously subsided. Since then, this medal has come to be known as the "Miraculous Medal," and many people from all over the world visit this church seeking the "Miraculous Medal." The front of the medal features a statue of Mary, a snake at her feet (as depicted), and the year 1830. The back features a cross, the letter "M," and two hearts. (See photos 1-2) It is said that wearing this medal as a necklace will bring about miracles in times of crisis. Those with allergies or men can keep it in their wallets. Stories of celebrities and famous people wearing the medal and experiencing good fortune have spread, making it especially popular with women in Japan. A card received from the monks at the church (not included with this product. (See photo 3)) serves as proof that this product is genuine. (Please be aware that there are also imitations.)
