This is a Batten lace table center from the early Showa period. ★Size: Approximately 40 x 120 cm Batten lace is an abbreviation for Battenburg lace. It is made by combining tapes along a stencil design and creating various stitches with needle and thread between the tapes to form patterns. It originated in Battenburg, Germany, and was introduced to Japan around the 20th year of the Meiji era (1887) in Yokohama and Kobe. Production became prosperous in Joetsu City, Niigata. This item is from the early Showa period (pre-war). It was carefully stored in its original packaging, unused, at my parents' home. The starch is still quite firm. However, there are some age-related discolorations on the folds. Please refrain from purchasing if you are overly sensitive or concerned about minor details.
