I purchased this helmet, which was reportedly used about 10 times by a child. I, an adult woman, have been using it once a week for about a year. There are no major scratches, but there are some minor ones. I wiped the inside with alcohol, but I couldn't remove all the dirt from the areas where the cloth rubs.
