Height: 16 cm This is a San-nai Chigo doll or Hatsumairi Ningyo, representing a young child who has lost their chigo hairstyle. These dolls were given by the Emperor to a prince or princess when they first visited the Imperial Palace from their mother's family's nursery. The doll wears a furisode (long-sleeved kimono) of red crepe embroidered with bamboo fences and chrysanthemums, and hakama (pleated trousers) of white long silk with black chrysanthemum ties, and holds a fan.
