This is a handmade tea sea (chahai) produced by HOJO, a Nagano-based company that imports and sells Chinese tea, and made by Ken Shimizu of Bunpei Kiln, Sado Mumyoi-yaki. The capacity is approximately 300cc. It is a slightly large size, with a diameter of about 10cm and a height of about 7.5cm. I purchased it from HOJO about a dozen years ago. Shimizu-san's works are no longer sold. I believe only a few dozen tea seas were sold at the time, making this a very valuable item. I have used it with affection, but recently I have had fewer opportunities to brew tea with this capacity, so I have decided to declutter and am offering this item for sale. I hope someone will cherish it. As mentioned below, the material of the teapot changes the taste of the tea, so it is recommended for core Chinese tea lovers. I only used it for semi-fermented teas such as oolong tea and Tieguanyin, so the adhesion of aroma is minimal. Since I used it frequently, there is some tea stain, so please check the images and refrain from purchasing if you are concerned. Since it is a rare item, I cannot offer a discount. The following is an excerpt from the HOJO website introducing Mumyoi-yaki. (Please see the HOJO website for details) Sado Mumyoi-yaki is pottery made from red clay produced as a byproduct after gold mining at the Aikawa Gold Mine on Sado Island. The red clay of Sado contains a large amount of iron, and this is a bisque-fired pottery. Mumyoi clay is basically compatible with any tea. Its characteristic is that it enhances the body, making the aroma stand out and spread throughout the mouth. For this reason, it is suitable for fermented teas such as black tea and Taiwanese oolong tea. Black tea goes well with Darjeeling and Chinese black tea.
