This is a bowl I purchased from an antique art dealer in Kyoto about 10 years ago. First of all, the stylized peony arabesque in the center of the bowl is beautiful. The surrounding design is composed of three windows. At first glance, they look like fan-shaped windows, but upon closer inspection, they are actually bat-shaped windows. The windows feature alternating patterns of water plants and lattice designs. Each bat-shaped window depicts wild chrysanthemums and a bamboo fence. The small flowers around them are likely stylized plum blossoms. Butterflies are flying in the negative space. Have you noticed? One of the bat-shaped windows is missing a butterfly. It's quite stylish. The exterior features an arabesque pattern. The center appears to be a ghost motif. The contrasting use of colors is excellent. The interior is traditional, while the exterior has a pop art feel. You can sense the changing times. There are no noticeable major damages. There are some minor imperfections that are difficult to distinguish between scratches and kiln marks. Please examine the images carefully.
