After firing, the dolls are dipped in a powder made from crushed seashells and then colored with paints used in Japanese painting. As each doll is made by hand, no two are exactly alike, and the dolls' rich expressions are said to be the best in the world. This is a retro doll with a cute face that I purchased in the 1970s.
