This is an old Obon (tray). It's a sturdy, stand-up type with a folk craft feel. The piece has a rich character, with the marks of the potter's wheel and carving still visible on the hollowed-out wooden base, and a well-aged, rubbed lacquer finish. It has a considerable presence. There are signs of age, such as scratches and areas where the lacquer has been reapplied, as shown in the images. The size is 36cm in diameter and 6.5cm in height.
