This is an eight-sun (approximately 24 cm) double-edged saw made by the blacksmith "Nakaya Shintaro." At first glance, it seems quite ordinary, but it's a fascinating tool with some strange and inexplicable aspects. The blacksmith was likely active around the mid-Showa era. Although it shows considerable signs of aging, there are no traces of use. Aside from the handle, the blade is almost like new. However, it has a receipt from when it was taken in for sharpening. When I tried using it, the cutting performance was extremely poor; it wouldn't cut. So, I began to sharpen it, and I was astonished. The cutting edges were beveled in the same direction on both sides. This is why it wouldn't cut! After re-sharpening it, the saw's cutting ability was restored to a level worthy of its maker's name.
