Both vehicles are painted in 'Rail Blue', a color used during the period when British Railways was working to standardize its rolling stock across various regions. While some may criticize this era for its lack of variety, I find it fascinating, as it was a time when remnants of the four major private railway companies were still actively operating. The bogie car (HORNBY R4585) is a Brake vehicle originally built during the Southern Railway (SR) era, essentially a luggage van where the conductor would ride. The large wooden body skillfully uses both thin and thick planks, appearing almost like a design feature. It has a periscope on the roof, which was gradually removed from later vehicles, but it is an iconic feature of the time. The lettering on the end of the car is detailed, and combined with the deep recesses, it enhances the sense of precision. This vehicle accurately represents the late 1970s, a time when the transition from diesel to electric power was underway, as evidenced by the "Danger of Electric Shock" markings. It is equipped with close couplers, and coupler parts are also included. The 4-wheel (2-axle) vehicle (HORNBY R6639) is a Diagram 800, designed by the London North Eastern Railway (LNER) and continuously improved and produced after nationalization. Originally, it was an insulated vehicle used for transporting fish throughout the UK, and it was painted white. This dedicated transport service was discontinued in 1968 due to decline, but the Fish van had superior express delivery performance, and many were repurposed for small package transport. The recessed doors are a remnant of this. The extremely long wheelbase, hydraulic axle boxes, and roller bearings are not just for show. It proudly displays the double arrow mark and the Express Parcels logo, ready to take center stage once again. Although listed as HO gauge on Mercari, it is actually OO gauge, which is the British standard. This is a new, unused item from my collection. Thank you for your interest.
