I've overlooked this padded kimono until now. This item will be listed for a limited time, until March 15, 2026. At first glance, it's a silk kimono in a light brown color with white-ish pink vertical stripes. The pattern is similar to striped Omeshi, and it feels like a high-quality Omeshi from Nishijin-ori, woven with a combination of Omeshi weft (a special tightly twisted yarn) and regular twisted yarn. (Photos 11-13) Since there is no trademark, the material of the kimono is based on speculation. This kimono is a traditional Japanese winter garment, a padded kimono that will warm both your heart and body. Depending on the region, it may also be called Tanzen or Dotera. Tanzen is a winter garment worn after bathing, with a length that extends below the knees and has cotton padding in the fabric. Usually, a narrow obi is used to tie it, but the obi is optional. This time, a used Tsumugi Heiko obi and a Tanzen cord will be included as a service item. It seems that it is made larger than a typical kimono so that it can be worn over a yukata at hot spring inns in winter. The original style is to wear it over a yukata and tie the obi over it, but you can also wear it over a Nagajuban, just like a regular kimono, or wear it over Western clothes as a winter garment. The lining is made of cotton Kanekin, using a purplish-blue Konjo color. The outer fabric of the Tanzen is silk, and the material of the cotton inside is unknown. Probably cotton.
