This is a plain-weave kimono featuring a chrysanthemum and foliage pattern across the entire garment. Although the product name states "plain weave," the texture is very similar to plain-weave Oshima Tsumugi. Looking at the twist of the weaving yarn, ordinary Oshima Tsumugi uses loosely twisted yarn, called "amayo-ri," and this kimono is also woven with the same loosely twisted yarn as Oshima Tsumugi (see photo 7). The smooth texture and luster of this kimono fabric are similar to Oshima Tsumugi, a characteristic not found in other Tsumugi. I thought it might be machine-woven Oshima Tsumugi, but about 50 years ago, when I was working at a kimono wholesaler in Muromachi, there were similar woven kimonos from Ashikaga, Isesaki, and other production areas, so I will leave the production area as unknown. The woven pattern of this kimono features reddish-yellowish-brown and ancient purple-toned, round, and full chrysanthemums, along with dull green kikujin-colored foliage. The colors of each chrysanthemum pattern are woven with varying shades, creating a gradation effect like a "bokashi" dye. Chrysanthemum flowers represent not only beauty and fragrance but also longevity, making them an auspicious flower. As a kimono pattern, it is a high-class floral design, so I would like you to wear it not only in autumn but also regardless of the season. The fine cross-kasuri pattern made in black on a pale pinkish-white ground changes the entire kimono to a grayish-pink ground color, creating an elegant and gentle impression with the chrysanthemums and foliage. The lining is white habutae silk, and the hakkei (underskirt) is seika chirimen, dyed in a gradation of a slightly brighter shade of reddish-purple hagi color. Both the outer and lining are pure silk. Dimensions (cm) Length (back) 160, Sleeve-to-sleeve length 66, Sleeve width 33.5, Sleeve length 49, Back width 30, Front width 22.5, Bat-wing collar It appears to be free of stains and dirt, with the basting threads still attached, but there is a weaving flaw characteristic of woven fabrics on the left back sleeve (see photos 4-7). As it is characteristic of woven fabrics, I do not consider it a defect. I check for stains and dirt as thoroughly as possible, but there may be oversights. Thank you for your understanding. These are digital camera images. Please note that the colors may appear different depending on your smartphone or computer. Also, please be aware that the colors may differ due to the characteristics of the camera. The 8-sun obi and accessories used in the photography are not included in this listing.
