The "Trappistine Monastery of the Holy Mother of Angels" in Hakodate, Hokkaido, was established nearly 120 years ago in 1898 (Meiji 31) by eight nuns who came from France. It is the first contemplative convent in Japan (where female nuns live their lives centered on prayer and labor within the convent). Also known as "Tenshien" (Angel Garden), the shop on the grounds sells sweets, miscellaneous goods, etc., and the materials room allows you to learn about the history of the convent's life. This is an angel figurine from the "Angel Band" of the Trappistine Monastery, which was produced by "Kato Kogei," a company in Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture, that closed in 2015. It is small but made of bone china and has a very beautiful luster. The cute little girl angel is playing a musical instrument (probably a guitar). The hem of her skirt, which looks like it's blowing in the wind, is beautiful. The blue ribbon on her head is very cute. The size is about 6.5cm tall. It has been in my home for a long time, about the same time (over 20 years ago) as the Rose O'Neill Kewpie dolls from Kato Kogei. The mysterious angel, I don't remember when or where I bought it.
