This is likely an old Kyo-nuri (Kyoto lacquerware) camellia dish. The deep vermillion lacquer is beautifully complemented by the elegant chrysanthemum arabesque maki-e (sprinkled picture). The chrysanthemum arabesque design, rendered in black lacquer, evokes Yoshino-e (a style of painting), a design favored by tea masters. The dish's more generous size compared to standard camellia dishes is also appealing. It is in generally good condition with only slight wear. The size is 14 cm in diameter and 4.5 cm in height.
