I have remade a used obi (sash) into a tote bag. This is a B5 size. This is a remake from an obi woven with waka poems and karuta cards, as if inviting you into the world of The Tale of Genji. The weaving of pine and cherry blossoms is highly artistic. You can almost hear the cheerful voices of the Heian nobles. It has a magnetic button and a pocket. The handles are made from obi-jime (sash cords). The bottom has a core sewn in, making it sturdy and preventing it from losing its shape, allowing it to stand on its own. The lining is made from the lining of the obi. The size is perfect for a water bottle, whether laid down or standing up. A B5 notebook fits perfectly. I think it can be used for lessons, outings, or as a sub-bag for weddings and other occasions. It will look great with both Japanese and Western clothing.
