Wayne Shorter, a saxophone legend who enjoyed a long career as a jazz icon, has left behind numerous masterpieces and outstanding performances across various labels. In the golden Miles Davis Quintet, which led the 60s, Wayne had a significant influence, creating a new sonic world with a unique occultism and mysterious sound. This is his fourth leader album on Blue Note, recorded in 1965, and it demonstrates a forward-thinking direction that would later lead to the formation of Weather Report. The album features Herbie Hancock (p), Grachan Moncur III (tb), Ron Carter (b), and Joe Chambers (ds), along with Freddie Hubbard (tp). Wayne's brother, avant-garde trumpeter Alan Shorter, contributes the final track and participates on flugelhorn, which is also noteworthy. The record has only a few stains on the label, and there is almost no noise. The King Records pressing, known for its excellent sound quality, delivers the powerful sound characteristic of Blue Note. Although the obi is missing, it comes with a Japanese commentary booklet.
