It was serialized in "Big Comic Spirits" (Shogakukan) from issue 20 of 1983. In 1987, it won the 32nd Shogakukan Manga Award for General Adult. As of October 2020, the cumulative circulation exceeded 135 million copies. It has also been adapted into a TV anime and live-action TV drama.
