It was serialized in Big Comic Spirits (Shogakukan) from issue 20 of 1983. In 1987, it won the 32nd Shogakukan Manga Award for General/Seinen. As of October 2020, the cumulative circulation exceeded 135 million copies. It has also been adapted into a TV anime and live-action TV drama.
