I am a lacquerware artist from Kaga. Born in 1930. I studied under Gonroku Matsuda (Living National Treasure). Yatate were tools used in the Edo period and earlier to carry a writing brush and ink pot. This work features paulownia and bamboo depicted in gold and nashiji (pear skin) on a vermilion and gold ground. It is wonderful as a kogo (incense container) and also as a work of art, and it is also practical as it includes a brush. It is a valuable piece of Japanese culture. There are some scratches (see photos). There is no wrapping cloth or artist's statement. *Not eligible for combined shipping. (Please purchase separately even if purchasing multiple items.) *Please refrain from price negotiations. *Please note that shipping may take about a week. *This is a used item. *Comes in a wooden box. *13.5cm x 2cm.
