I am a lacquerware artist from Kaga. Born in 1930. I studied under Gonroku Matsuda (Living National Treasure). Yatate were tools used in the Edo period and earlier to carry a writing brush and ink pot. This work features paulownia and bamboo depicted in gold and nashiji (pear skin) on a vermilion and gold ground. It is wonderful as a kogo (incense container) and also as a work of art, and it is also practical as it includes a brush. It is a valuable piece of Japanese culture.
